If you’ve been paying attention to these rants at all, you’ve noticed that I’ve slowly shifted my focus. Â I used to write about my studies in the graduate jazz program at the University of South Florida but have shifted to a business-centric take on music (jazz in particular) in my community and across the globe.
The intersection of Art and Commerce is the nexus of sustainable creativity for all Artists. Â There are myriad issues that develop when inspiration and money meet. Â It is my intention to start a digital magazine focused on the issues that arise from the Artist’s need for food and shelter (and maybe even a little bit of fun). Â
If you are interested in this project and would like to help me plan and execute it, please comment below. Â If you know of organizations that would be interested in advertising or promoting such a venture, please comment as well.
I’m interested. Please keep me updated. I am a fine artist and founder of Post Conceptual UnGraven Image Art theory.

I’ve been thinking along these lines for some time. My thoughts have more centered around how can artists avoid the “industry”, stay true to their art, and “find success”. My heart is with rock and indie singer/songwriter types, but I know this question will need to be asked and addressed in a lot of different areas as years go on. As more music moves independent vs. industry driven, these questions will become even more important.
Keep me updated and let me know how I can help.
Let me know what I can do man.
I’d like to help, if I can. I’m an aspiring novelist working as a web developer to keep my bills paid as I search for an agent or publisher.
I’m interested! I’m assuming this is what you called me about. Sorry i haven’t gotten back with you sooner, last week was very crazy. But yes, I’m very much interested.
I’m in.
Matt I think that’s a great idea. I would be really interested in helping. I’ve been working on a number of publications recently, but I think this one has some real potential. Let me know what you’re wanting to do and I’ll do everything in my power to help you get it.
I offer support. I am founder of Indie CEO, which is a nearly new effort to mentor the business aspects for artists who sell online.
Although your endeavor is from a much wider angle than online business activities, and likely focused on music, our perspectives may mesh in certain ways. I would be happy to help if desired.
The Indie CEO blog is http://IndieCEO.blogspot.com and is very new in planning – with more plans on paper than yet implemented!
Great idea Matt! I’m interested, but I’m also busy trying to raise the money to bring great art in the form of live orchestral music to our area. Time and money are definitely related.
