Indexed is one of my favorite daily blogs.  Jessica’s insights are often so deceptively poignant that it may take all day for the gravity of her statements to set it.

This is today’s post.  If you haven’t been able to tell, I’ve recently become very fascinated with the intersection of art and commerce.  Art for Art’s sake is a beautiful, important catalyst to the creative process, but money makes the world go ’round and keeps artists’ belly’s full.  This, of course, leads to questions of government subsidy and market value.  One’s definition of art plays a great part in this debate.  If art is truly unto itself, the market should not dictate its value.  Our culture seems to be proving that the market holds little value for art (which is odd, as many of the large companies I’ve known still consider the arts as a major factor when they are planning locations).

What do you think?
